The Cocktail Shack – cocktails

The Cocktail Shack

Good for cocktails (funnily enough)

34 Regency Square, Brighton, BN1 2FJ  www.cocktailshackbrighton.co.uk

The Cocktail Shack is in the newly refurbished Artist Residence Hotel in Regency Square. The whole place is stunning in a that Pintrest-y industrial / glam way. The bar itself is like an indoor beach bar. Really friendly barman and really incredible, unusual cocktails. They are expensive (I think) at £9ish a go but so beautifully done.

The barman brings over a carafe of cucumber water while you are waiting (nice touch). I had a Tequila Mockingbird(!) and my companion, Dr Sporle-Norfolk, something delicious involving rhubarb vodka and ginger.   Lovely relaxed place for drinks.

La Choza – lunch / casual dinner

La Choza 36 Gloucester Rd, Brighton, BN1 4AQ. Tel: (0) 1273 945 926

Good for lunch / dinner.  Value for money

Oh how I love La Choza.  It has been around a while now but the cheery welcome, great food and friendly service remain the same.  They don’t take bookings for less that 10 people so you have to take your chances and turn up.  If they don’t have a table for you they will give you an idea of the waiting time, take your mobile number and call you when your table is available so you can go and wait in the pub.  It’s a brilliant system, it is slightly stressful being the person in charge of the batphone,  but otherwise works great.

The food is so fresh and tasty.  The Nachos are pretty much the best I have ever had.  I have never eaten something I didn’t like here – even the cactus salad which was a slightly acquired taste.  Its great value for money and – oh nearly forgot to say – fantastic interior.
